The Technology Transfer Department helps move technologies from the Lab to the marketplace to benefit society and the U. S. economy by developing and managing an array of partnerships with the private sector. The department licenses a wide range of cutting-edge technologies to companies that have the financial, R & D, manufacturing, marketing, and managerial capabilities to successfully commercialize Lab inventions as well as managing lab-industry research partnerships, ensuring that inventions receive proper intellectual protection, licensing technology to start-up companies, and serving as the Lab resource on industry relations.

The Technology Transfer Center (TTC) handles invention disclosures, patent applications, licensing agreements, confidentiality agreements, material transfer agreements, copyrights, and other intellectual property issues. The TTC helps to facilitate collaborations with industry, develop patent properties, incorporate intellectual properties into plans promoting continued industry funding for university research, and serve as the liaison between the campus research community and the Office of Technology Transfer (OTT) at the UC Office of the President in Oakland.
