Seattle Genetics is an emerging global multi-product biotechnology company that develops and commercializes innovative antibody-based therapies for the treatment of cancer. The company’s industry-leading antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) technology harnesses the targeting ability of antibodies to deliver cell-killing agents directly to cancer cells. In addition to one marketed product, we are advancing a strong product pipeline of novel therapies for solid tumors and blood-related cancers designed to address significant unmet medical needs and improve treatment outcomes for patients.

Summary

We are looking for an experienced HR leader to partner with our Technical Operations, IT and Portfolio Strategy business units. This role will work with executives to plan and implement HR initiatives that will support the company’s aggressive growth plan of becoming a global, multiproduct biotechnology company within the next two years. The successful candidate must be business driver and change agent, anticipating client needs and developing integrated HR and people solutions for large and complex organizations. This role has multi-site and global responsibilities, as it with partner with various leaders to set HR strategy from Bothell Headquarters to the European region.

Responsibilities:

As the Head of HR for these organizations, this role will be accountable for all HR-related matters within Technical Operations, IT and Portfolio Strategy, including the following:

  • Business Partnership
    • Build strong relationships with executives and peers within business unit and demonstrate strong understanding of key strategies and levers that are critical to success. Bring HR functional skill sets, knowledge and tools to the table and provide HR solutions aligned to the corporate strategy.
    • Partner closely with HR colleagues in Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, HR Operations and Training and Development to bring best in class resources and tools to clients.
    • Coach executives and influence business decisions to meet corporate objectives.
  • Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning.
    • Work with Talent Acquisition to identify staffing priorities, talent pipeline and recruiting strategies to win the war for talent.
    • Develop workforce plans for implementation and participate in recruitment of leadership positions.
  • Total Rewards
    • Work with Total Rewards to drive merit, bonus and stock planning processes, and coach managers on market pricing, differentiation and compensation philosophy.
    • Provide proactive consultation on different methods of reward and retention.
    • Organizational Development and Talent Management.
      • Lead talent planning at all levels of the organization, with a focus on development, succession planning and retention. Proactively identify and facilitate change management and organizational development initiatives.
      • Identify drivers of retention and implement mitigating solutions.
    • Performance Management - Support all levels of management by providing HR advice, counsel, and decisions regarding performance improvement and employee development.
    • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Conduct effective, thorough and objective investigations.
  • Business Acumen
    • Fully understand the business’ deliverables, financial position, short-mid-long range plans, culture and its competition.
    • Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to employees, reducing corporate risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partner with the legal department as needed/required.
  • Leadership
    • Reports to EVP, HR and directly supports two EC members (CTO and SVP, Portfolio Management) and the SVP, IT.
    • Sit on HR and business unit’s leadership meetings as a valued member.
    • Lead company-wide HR programs, policies, and procedures that advance the organization and/or business unit.
    • Supervise two HRBP’s and serve as a coach for other positions in the HR department.

Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will be a highly effective, skilled HRBP professional with demonstrated ability to drive positive, high-impact HR change within a business; highly skilled SME in HR including talent acquisition, HRBP leadership and execution, total rewards and execution of pay for performance strategies, OD and employee development, talent and succession planning.
  • Should have the ability to inspire confidence, show courage, a tough backbone and ability to say no, especially when unpopular or against push back from senior people, and quickly capture the trust and respect of the leadership team, peers and all employees.
  • Must be a business person first and HR professional second. Successful candidate should be someone who demonstrates intellectual capacity and professional motivation to understand the technical, financial and market elements of the business and mold HR strategies that make a difference.
  • To demonstrate the above qualifications, we would expect the candidate to have at least 10+ years of HR experience, a significant portion of which should be in a strategic HRBP function and leading a team. Ideally, would also have specific HR expert level assignments in one or more sub-functions such as recruiting or total awards.
  • Experience in biotech/pharma or health sciences is preferred, but not required. Must demonstrate an agility to learn the biotech business if doesn’t have that experience.
  • Education: the candidate should have an undergraduate degree and preferably an MBA or other advanced degree, or equivalent experience. An SPHR or similar HR credential would also be desired.
