Summary

The Contract Specialist is responsible for supporting the company’s contract function, including ensuring that contracts are completed in a timely manner in accordance with company policies, internal client requirements and applicable regulations. This position also provides support for other key legal functions including records management.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the creation, review, revision, and tracking of contracts, including but not limited to work orders, statements of work, master services agreements, amendments, confidentiality agreements and clinical trial agreements.
  • May facilitate and participate in the negotiation of contracts, including coordinating with internal clients and other functional areas to ensure timely completion of agreements and appropriate contractual terms.
  • May participate in contract review meetings and interact directly with internal and external parties as needed.
  • In collaboration with the Contract Administrator, handle the contracts execution process and provides oversight to the business review and signature process, including facilitating the revision, review, and approval of contractual documents in both electronic and paper environments.
  • In collaboration with the Contract Administrator, tracks, and serves as point of contact, related to pending contract actions and requests, and responds to inquiries regarding contract terms.
  • In collaboration with the Contract Administrator, maintains and archives company contracts and legal files and oversees tracking of contract expiration dates and additional key contractual terms.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 5 years of legal support experience, including some contract drafting experience, is required, preferably in a public company regulated industry such as the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry.
  • Experience supporting contractual needs of clinical and medical affairs departments in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry is strongly preferred.
  • Experience interpreting contract requests, drafting contracts for lawyer review, and managing contract files is required.
  • Must be an expert user of Microsoft Word and Excel, with proficiency in Microsoft Access and Adobe Acrobat a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to be flexible and adaptable and work in a fast-paced environment is critical. Strong client service ethic is essential.
  • Must have the ability to handle and prioritize many projects simultaneously.
  • Must be able to follow established policies and procedures, and comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform detail oriented work with a high degree of accuracy and completeness is essential, as are strong organization skills.
  • Ability to recognize problems, recommend and implement solutions is critical.
  • Must be effective at working in a highly collaborative environment and have demonstrated ability to gain trust and confidence of internal clients.
  • Excellent formatting, editing, and proof reading skills are essential.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, life sciences or other relevant discipline is preferred.
